Things to do in Riyadh in December

If you follow us on Instagram, you know that the reason for the radio silence here is that we travelled to see my family back in Europe. And now that we've returned and celebrated our 100th day in Riyadh on Sunday, we start preparing for the Holidays. Obviously Saudi Arabia doesn't observe Christmas, but I was surprised to see that more and more stores take part in offering a variety of Holiday decorations and putting up trees. Times really are changing in the Kingdom, and, oh well, you can't stop businesses from capitalising on it. I have taken note of some places and events that we would like to visit in December, taking advantage of the best of Riyadh Season activities.

This huge theme park near KAFD boasts a number of rides suitable for all ages, so I'm excited to take the kids one day when they both had good naps so they don't get too overwhelmed by the attractions.

This is one of the most spectacular events of this Riyadh Season, and one that I'm personally most excited about. It brings together the cultures of multiple countries in a single location on the largest artificial lake in the world, and apparently visitors can travel by boat between destinations, inspired by France, Italy, Spain, Greece, India, Morocco, China, Mexico and the US. It tends to get crowded over the weekends so we need to fix a date ideally during the week.

The Zoo reopened a few weeks ago after extensive renovations, so we are very excited to finally be able to visit. From what I hear it's well sized and great for the little ones to run around chasing turtles or feeding giraffes or even a white tiger. Sounds thrilling!

This wonderful event runs between 10-16 December and showcases the works of over 200 designers from across the Arab world. I'm really excited to learn more about the contemporary talents shaping the future of fashion design in the region while embracing the rich heritage and culture of the Arab world.

FIFA World Cup 2022 Finals

Husband is a huge football fan, and despite his team being knocked out, he will certainly want to watch the finals on the 18th December. Riyadh Boulevard's Area15 offers an immersive, 360-degree map projection where people can watch the matches, which sounds really exciting!

We are expecting to have a busy month, but it's great to be back!
